PHOENIX — Corey Seager had never missed the MLB postseason when he hit free agency after the 2021 season. In 2020, he won the World Series with the Dodgers and was the series MVP.

But he left it all behind Dec. 1, 2021, for a pretty penny but also because he was sold on the vision that the Texas Rangers, who had just lost 102 games and hadn’t sniffed the postseason for a half-decade, would soon be world champions.

He was doubted, of course, and labeled as having sold his soul for a 10-year, $325 million contract.

Somewhere in spray from the hundreds of Budweisers and champagne bottles Wednesday night, he had the last laugh.
