Dane Acker, an early star of minor-league camp, joins Rangers Today Baseball Podcast

SURPRISE, Ariz. — Several pitchers and players have made early impressions the past few weeks on the minor-league side, even though they hadn’t played any official games.
But the most profuse praise has been for right-hander Dane Acker, a piece in the Elvis Andrus trade in February 2021 who blew out his elbow that spring in only his second start at Low A Down East.
Acker came back last summer, spent his offseason working out at TMI Sports Medicine in Arlington, and has been in Arizona since early February. He throws hard, reaching into the upper 90s, and his curveball has been drawing rave reviews.
Next up is finishing off spring training healthy and going somewhere to pitch. He would probably like to be at Double A Frisco, but he had only a partial 2022 season at High A Hickory and could be asked to start there and earn his way to Frisco.
He joined John Moore and I last week for Episode 74 of the Rangers Today Baseball Podcast live from the Surprise Recreation Campus, and talked about it all. One key for his season? He had a normal offseason for the first time in his career.
