Friday on the Farm: J.P. Martinez might be off schedule, but the MLB goal remains the same

FRISCO — The signing of J.P. Martinez, who back then was called Julio Pablo Martinez, was a big deal in international scouting circles, and it was the Rangers who landed him.
Martinez would have been the biggest fish in that class, as a toolsy outfielder with professional experience who defected from Cuba, if it wasn’t for a player in Japan who could pitch as well as he could hit.
