Friday on the Farm: Recapping the first taste of pro ball for Kumar Rocker, Brock Porter

Kumar Rocker pretty much made it clear on draft night what he thought would be best for his career — pitching in 2022.

Brock Porter, who was probably counting his blessings, wasn’t nearly as bold.

The Rangers stunned all of baseball by landing both right-handers, arguably the two best available arms, in the 2022 MLB Draft. Rocker went third overall, which was surprising enough. Porter was expected to go around 10 picks later, but he fell out of the first round and all the way until the Rangers caught him in the fourth round with pick No. 109.

Their next stop was Arizona, the hottest place they could to step into their careers.

At least they had each other.

“I was roommates with him,” Porter said.
