Friday on the Farm: Roadblocks remain as top Rangers prospects knock on MLB door

(Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports)

HOUSTON — Justin Foscue became a major-leaguer last week, and Davis Wendzel did so earlier this week.

They have long been considered advanced Rangers prospects after starring in college, dating to before the Rangers loaded up in free agency and added via the trade market. Both have reached Rule 5 eligibility, with Foscue landing on the 40-man roster in November as protection from the Rule 5.

While both are now in the majors (Foscue is on the injured list), how long they stay and what role they might fill remain uncertain. They know that, as do other talented prospects in the minor leagues whose positions are filled on the major-league roster by All-Stars, Silver Sluggers and Gold Glove winners.

That group doesn’t have much recourse.
