Friday on the Farm: Sam Huff, with ‘superstar’ upside, still Rangers’ best catcher in minors

Sam Huff’s time is coming. It has to be, right?
The catcher made his MLB debut in the crazy 2020 season but shouldn’t have. He played only in the minors in 2021 because of a knee injury. When an opportunity presented itself last season, the Rangers leaned on Jonah Heim and Huff lost his timing at the plate.
Now, Mitch Garver has been declared healthy again, and the presence of Sandy Leon on a minor-league contract suggests that the Rangers would rather go with the veteran than Huff if Garver isn’t healthy enough by Opening Day.
Huff’s time is coming. Right?
Huff is the longterm answer. Hopefully, he starts between 50 and 60 games up here in the second half of the season and goes into 2024 as the starter.
