Friday on the Farm: Time is now on Rangers’ side with young prospects

(Texas Rangers)

The best athletes and players on any given baseball field, especially in high school and with the young hopefuls in Latin America, are shortstops or center fielders.

The Rangers loaded up on both in January to open the international signing period, landing coveted center fielder Paulino Santana and shortstop Curley Martha. The Rangers handed out six-figure bonuses to four more shortstops and another center fielder.

That haul followed the 2023 addition of shortstop Sebastian Walcott and the 2022 signing of center fielder Anthony Gutierrez.

Walcott turned 18 on Thursday, and Gutierrez is only 19. They should be teammates at some point this season.
