Good eats headed to Globe Life Field for 2024 Rangers season

ARLINGTON — Whataburger knows how to sample its food.

The legendary Texas fast-food chain didn’t cut its burgers into eighths, fourths or halves Tuesday at Globe Life Field. Whataburger delivered the whole enchilada.

In this case, the enchilada was a bacon double cheeseburger that stole the hearts and clogged the arteries of the media who sampled a bevy of new food options for the 2024 Rangers season at the annual media event.

Whataburger will operate a stand for the first time as Globe Life Field enters its fifth season and fourth with fans. The stand won’t be open for the first season-opening homestand, which starts Thursday as the Rangers begin defense of their World Series crown.

The stand, located on the third-base side of the main concourse, is expected to open for the second homestand, which kicks off April 5 with a four-game series against the Astros. The Astros have a New York City-based Shake Shack at their home ballpark.

The cheeseburger was the best of the grub Rangers Today sampled, though another local favorite, Hurtado Barbecue, came out swinging with the fried brisket Milanesa taco. It’s cut of chicken-fried brisket served in a tortilla.

Repeat: Chicken-fried brisket.

Also, check out the Korean pork steamed buns and the meatball-garlic knot sliders. Rangers Today also tried the ranchero chile relleno dog, the Texas tacos and chicken empanadas. They were good, just not as good as Whataburger and Hurtado.

Among the offering not sampled is a chicken and waffle taco from Golden Chick. The chicken is a chicken strip, and the taco shell is a waffle. It comes with sriracha sauce.

An interesting note: The Boomstick this year isn’t one giant item. It’s now called the Boomstick Triple Play and features two Nolan Ryan Beef cheeseburgers, a foot-long chili dog and a big serving of nachos. it’s a more family-friendly product, and the $32.99 price tag isn’t too outlandish.

Hurtado, the official barbecue of the Rangers, is adding a second stand in section 201. It should be ready by the end of April.
