Jacob deGrom willing to lend expertise to Rangers during rehab process

ARLINGTON — The worst part of his elbow injury is behind him, Jacob deGrom said Sunday morning, and the work has already started on what he hopes is a 14-month recovery process to get him back on the mound.

The right-hander underwent Tommy John surgery Monday at TMI Sports Medicine, where he will spend five days a week for the foreseeable future. He’s already been a couple times.

He’s not doing any heavy lifting with the arm, not even newborn son Nolan. His left arm works just fine for that, but mom is “not going to be leaving me with Nolan for a while,” he said.

    If he can teach John King how to strike guys out and show Jack Leiter/Cole Winn/Brock Porter how to limit walks, he is worth it. It’s like how Eovaldi has taught Gray and others how to pitch.
