SURPRISE, Ariz. — The Rangers’ clubhouse became much more crowded Sunday morning. Position players arrived for their physicals one day ahead of the first full-squad spring workout for the reigning World Series champions.

Among them was Marcus Semien, whose name continues to come up in the media’s morning session with manager Bruce Bochy.

The topic: Does Semien need to take more days off?

After 162 games at second base and 17 more in the postseason and one less month to recover, the answer would seem to be yes. An easy yes, honestly.

But it’s not that easy.

A real team player would agree to occasionally play shortstop or hit lower in the lineup if it helps the team. I want to see Carter leadoff vs righties, and having Foscue at 2nd and Semien at shortstop last year when Seager was out made sense. I do appreciate him being healthy enough to play 160+ games regularly, though.
