ARLINGTON — Through all the talk Tuesday afternoon about the Mets’ plans for the immediate future and the reunion with pitching coach Mike Maddux, one thing about new Rangers right-hander Max Scherzer rang clear:

The guy wants to win.

Winning isn’t in the Mets’ plans for next season, the last of his contract, but the Rangers are in win-now mode. At 39 and with the sun setting on his Hall of Fame-worthy career, Scherzer doesn’t have time for a rebuild and waived his no-trade clause for another chance at the postseason.

I’m assuming Bubba Thompson will head back down once Hedges is with the team.
