Mike Maddux hired as pitching coach, but wasn’t Rangers’ only key hire Wednesday

Mike Maddux served as Rangers pitching coach from 2009 to 2015.

The Rangers had one losing record.

He helped turn C.J. Wilson into a two-time Rangers Pitcher of the Year and Wilson, Matt Harrison and Alexi Ogando into All-Stars. Colby Lewis swears by him. The Rangers went to the postseason four times and posted a winning record in six of Maddux’s seven seasons.

Maddux didn’t want to leave. He kept his home in Tarrant County and has spent his offseasons in the Metroplex after six of his past seven teams went to the postseason.

(Quick math: Including 2008 in Milwaukee, 11 of Maddux’s past 15 teams have gone to the postseason.)

The Metroplex is home, and it pulled him home.
