Nuggets from Arizona ahead of first spring workout for Rangers pitchers, catchers

SURPRISE, Ariz. — The parking lot was mostly full Tuesday at the Surprise Recreation Campus, the day before Rangers pitchers and catchers were scheduled to hold their first workout of spring training.

While there are 38 pitchers and six catchers on the Rangers’ big-league roster, there are a number of minor-league pitchers and catchers working out more than a month away from their camp.

Also in town are the scores of club personnel and officials, all of whom met on a few occasions on a chilly, wet day in the desert.

Manager Bruce Bochy has his work cut out for him.
