Coming soon to the mound at Globe Life Field, perhaps as soon as Wednesday: three-time Cy Young winner Max Scherzer.
The Rangers pulled off the biggest trade so far ahead of the trade deadline, acquiring the right-hander for Double A shortstop Luisangel Acuna. There is money involved, of course, and there was a hiccup with Scherzer’s ability to opt out of his $43.33 player option for 2024.
All has been remedied, reportedly.
The deadline is Tuesday, so the Rangers still have time to continue adding pieces. They need at least two relievers and might entertain another starter.
For now, here’s what you need to know:
With the Monday off day, I was thinking maybe he pitches on Thursday, maybe even an extra day rest a debut on Friday against the Marlins. Either way, exciting times for the Texas Rangers fanbase.
When Max was with the Nats, I sat next to him on the team bus back to the hotel after a road game. So if you need me to come on your podcast to give you a complete breakdown of Max, happy to do it. 🙂
