ARLINGTON — MLB and the Players Association agreed in March that rosters would be expended from 26 players to 28 through May 1 in an attempt to keep players healthy after a spring that was shortened by the lockout.
Today is May 1. The Texas Rangers and the other 29 teams have decisions to make.
The Rangers close out their three-game series with the Atlanta Braves and are traveling to Philadelphia, where they will play Tuesday and Wednesday. The Rangers have until Monday at 11 a.m. Central to make the moves, but plan to inform the players who are being removed from the active roster before leaving for the airport.
It could be a nerve-racking wait for a handful of players, followed by a big dose of disappointment.
Is DFA’ing Willie a possibility? Bad luck injuries aside, he never has really shown any upside.
You just saw my latest on him. I’d say it’s being considered after he popped off.
