Rangers’ focus shifts away from rotation after Andrew Heaney signing

(Rangers Today/Jeff Wilson)

ARLINGTON — The signing of left-hander Andrew Heaney was reported last week at the winter meetings, confirmed by sources, and then announced by the Rangers on Friday.

He met the media Thursday, presumably the best mutual date for the player and the club before going on some semblance of a Christmas break. That’s not to say the Rangers aren’t working toward finding external upgrades, because they are.

Starting pitching, though,

So, Gallo signed for free and will win an MVP without the shift. Now, they may overpay for Conforto for 20 million and end up with a .200/.250.300 slash line. At this point free agent reliever like Kimbrel, Chapman, and others are better options than trades, and trades are probably much better than signings for the outfield. Reynolds, Varsho, McCarthy, Kepler, and others may make sense.
