SURPRISE, Ariz. — No one should have been surprised by the biggest news of the day Friday at Rangers spring training.

Not even Wyatt Langford was surprised to learn that he won a spot on the Opening Day roster.

“I mean, I was expecting it, kind of,” he said. “But at the same time, there was definitely some uncertainty going in, and then getting to hear it took a weight off my shoulders.”

Langford entered Friday batting .380. His 19 spring RBIs, 1.219 OPS, .796 slugging percentage and 39 total baseball led the majors. His six home runs were tied for the Cactus League lead.

But the Rangers knew he would be on the team before doing all of that.
