Left-hander Martin Perez is on track receive the one-year, $19.65 million qualifying offer Thursday from the Rangers after the two sides reached an impasse on talks for a contract extension.
An industry source said that the Rangers have offered Perez a two-year contract with an option for a third year. General manager Chris Young told reporters at the general manager’s meetings in Las Vegas that the qualifying offer is “a realistic consideration,” but he didn’t rule out a deal at some point.
The sides aren’t too far apart, the source said.
