Rangers still open to adding left fielder, but likely to give internal candidates first chance

(Texas Rangers/Ben Ludeman)
ARLINGTON — The Rangers’ pursuit of an everyday left fielder has reached a standstill. Barring a shift in the market, many of the same players who held down the position in 2022 will do so again in 2023.
Chris Young doesn’t see that as a bad thing.
The general manager said as much Saturday during Fan Fest at Globe Life Field. The Rangers have as many as eight players who could form a platoon. One of the front-runners to do is
They should really get a left fielder. Even if an improved Brad Miller and Bubba Thompson platoon with the new pickoff/base rules fills 1 spot, they still need to fill the gaping hole that Tavares is assumed to have filled. He started off cool, got hot, and then crashed again. His baserunning was hardly worth anything in the minors, given all the caught stealings, and so they really need a guy like Happ, Kepler, McCarthy, or Reynolds. I’d rather see Foscue or Crim in left field than see more guy who can’t hit out there. Garcia and Thompson/Tavares can make up ground for the left fielder.
Tavares is going to be fine. He got tired down the stretch after playing winter ball and didn’t have a full offseason with feedback from the hitting coaches. I do like Foscue in left. I bet we see it this season at Round Rock.
I’d like to thank all the people at fan feast who signed autographs and were polite to all the fans much appreciated your kindness ty
They’re pretty good dudes. That’s by design.
Did you get to see the hilarious video of Dane Dunning asking deGrom for an autograph without him realizing? deGrom looked up again the second time and then found out what had happened. That alone makes him worth his contract! I love him and hope to see all those superstars take Texas to the postseason (with or without a left fielder, I believe in Bochy).
