Rangers Today Baseball Podcast: Blaine Crim, the hero of Mayaguez

Blaine Crim went the extra mile for the Rangers Today Baseball Podcast during his first appearance last spring, spending a good 30 minutes while seated in his car with his wife.

Round 2 was a little more simple from his beachfront apartment in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

Crim joined the John Moore and me Thursday on an off day in the Roberto Clemento Puerto Rican Winter League championship series.

His team, los Indios de Mayaguez, are in the finals because Crim delivered a walk-off homer to clinch the semifinal series.

It’s been an adventure the past two offseasons. This one included a long drive with his wife from Mobile, Ala., to Surprise, Ariz., where he planned to start workouts six weeks before spring training before being wooed to Puerto Rico for the playoffs.

Mayaguez wanted him back for the full season because he was the league MVP last season. He didn’t want to play a full season because he wore down last summer at Double A Frisco. The playoff run, which now could include a trip to the Caribbean World Series, was a happy middle ground.

He talks about it all, and his 2022 season with Double A Frisco and Triple A Round Rock, in Episode 67.
