Corey Seager: Rangers were motivated by Alex Bregman’s celebratory quip

SURPRISE, Ariz. — Until late January, the most notable thing Corey Seager did in the offseason came two days after the Rangers won the first World Series in franchise history.

He closed the Rangers’ championship parade and celebration on stage just outside Globe Life Field with a shot across the bow of the rival Astros and their third baseman, Alex Bregman.

After Houston won the American League West on the last day of the season, edging the Rangers, Bregman channeled Kanye West and said, “People were wondering what it was going to be like if the Astros didn’t win the division. I guess we’ll never know.”

Seager had a retort a month later: “Everybody was wondering what would happen if the Rangers wouldn’t win the World Series. I guess we’ll never know,”

The mic drop was totally out of character for Seager, but it revealed that the Rangers might have taken note of Bregman’s quip.

Seager confirmed Monday ahead of the Rangers’ first full-squad work out.
