Editor’s note: T.R. Sullivan covered the Texas Rangers over 32 years for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and MLB.com and is sharing his “memoirs” with this Rangers Today. In the latest installment, T.R. ranks the 50 Rangers seasons, from the worst to the best.
50. 2002: 72-90, fourth place
There were Rangers teams that had worse records, but no team had a roster quite like this one. The Rangers were in desperate need of a complete overhaul. Instead, they tried to win in general manager John Hart’s first year with a ridiculous cast of characters to support shortstop Alex Rodriguez. John Rocker and Hideki Irabu as your closer? Manager Jerry Narron was right when he said after getting fired, “T.R … I got screwed.”
