T.R.’s Memoirs: The greatest farm system ever? Texas Rangers had it entering the 1989 season

Editor’s note: T.R. Sullivan covered the Rangers for 32 years from 1989-2020 for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and MLB.com. In 1987-88, he wrote weekly minor-league reports for the Star-Telegram before it became a staple in most newspapers.

The Rangers have the dubious distinction of having gone the longest of any franchise without ever winning a World Series.

They also hold another mind-boggling distinction.

They had the single greatest farm system in history.

That’s right … the greatest.

T.R. Sullivan

T.R. is a Military Brat and graduate of the University of San Francisco who retired in 2020 after a 40-year career with the Denison Herald, Fort Worth Star-Telegram and MLB.Com. He covered the Texas Rangers for 32 years.
