Editor’s note: T.R. Sullivan covered the Texas Rangers over 32 years for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and MLB.com and is sharing his “memoirs” with this newsletter. The Rangers are the only American League team to have never won a Cy Young Award. With the 2022 winner being announced Wednesday, here are the top 25 seasons by a Rangers pitcher in club history.

I’m not sure this cracks the top 25, but I’ll never forget Dale Mohorcic in 1987. The Rangers kept running that poor dude out there day after day. I think he pitched like 8 games in a row at one point. Unheard of today. I looked it up. 74 appearances, that’s Mariano Rivera’s career high by the way. 2.99 ERA and 100 innings. One day after an afternoon game, I ran into him with his family at a TGI Friday’s. No one knew who he was.
