Takeaways from Jack Leiter’s MLB debut in Rangers’ 9-7 win

(Lon Horwedel-USA TODAY Sports)

Jack Leiter is a major-leaguer. No one can ever take that away from him.

He also is a major-leaguer who is ready to get better.

The right-hander was charged with seven runs in 3 2/3 innings Thursday in his MLB debut, twice surrendering large leads in an up-and-down performance.

He did a lot of good, including striking out his first batter on three pitches. He did a lot of not-so-good, like missing spots and throwing too many pitches.

But the Rangers beat the Tigers 9-7, and Leiter will head into his next start — wherever it might be — with a checklist of things he wants to improve.
