Texas Rangers Baseball Podcast catches up with 2019 second-rounder Ryan Garcia

(Rangers Today/Jeff Wilson)
FORT WORTH — A long rehab stint in Arizona can drive a player mad, but it gives the motivated player a chance to pick up a new hobby.
Ryan Garcia picked up a few, and he bought a house right only blocks away from the Surprise Recreation Campus.
A lover of red meat, Garcia has found what he believes is the perfect way to cook a steak. A starting pitcher, he understands the importance playing golf has on his career. He also built himself a computer.
Unfortunately, he had that kind of time on his hands after Tommy John surgery in 2020 and chronic lat injuries in 2021. Fortunately, he’s healthy now and out of Arizona, pitching for Low A Down East in his first professional action since shortly after the Rangers selected him in the second round of the 2019 draft.
The only players the Rangers selected ahead of him that year were Josh Jung and Davis Wendzel.
Garcia hopped on the Rangers Today Baseball Podcast a few days before his 10th start of the season. He had a 2.53 ERA through the first nine, relying on his fastball but working more with his off-speed pitches of late.
