Texas Rangers Baseball Podcast catches up with outfield prospect Bubba Thompson

(Texas Rangers/Ben Ludeman)
FORT WORTH — If you don’t know Bubba Thompson other his exploits on the baseball field, you’re really missing out.
Called a beautiful soul by Triple A mananger Matt Hagen, Thompson is a cool customer with a wise way about him. He works hard to prove that he is a baseball player and not a football player in a baseball player’s body.
And his 24th birthday is Wednesday.
He was a great prep football player in Mobile, Ala., throwing for 38 touchdowns as a senior. But he was better at baseball, got the right money to forego college football, and is once again on the rise in the Rangers’ system.
Thompson talks about all of that in Episode 38 of the Texas Rangers Baseball Podcast, which is live in audio and video form.
He wants to zero in more on the strike zone at the plate, but has gained a better understanding of the pitches he can handle. He has often said that he can’t steal first, but he steals the heck out of second and third.
Thompson explains his Auburn/Alabama dilemma in high school, how good of a cook his mom is, and that as a kid he wanted to host his own fishing show.
