Texas Rangers Baseball Podcast welcomes Jack Leiter back to the program

(Rangers Today contributor/Davidson Wang)

SURPRISE, Ariz. —  Among the disruptions caused last spring by the MLB lockout was that the Rangers were unable to invite their normal amount of non-roster pitchers to big-league camp.

By the time the locked out ended, minor-league pitchers needed to be getting on schedule for the start of their seasons. Jack Leiter was one of them.

He had been the Rangers’ first-round pick (second overall) in 2021 and was entering his first professional season. He did pitch in a Cactus League game, but didn’t get the full clubhouse experience.

That has changed this spring, with Leiter working out with pitchers who are going to be in the Rangers’ starting rotation. He won’t be, but he should be relatively soon.

Leiter found time Friday (he was going to play golf Saturday) after the workout to sit down with John Moore and I for the second time. He talked about how he spent his offseason finding solutions for the things that didn’t work in 2022 at Double A Frisco and looked at things to implement into his routine.

Interestingly, he talked about his diet and how he needs to eat more after losing 12 pounds during the season. His sisters, John and I are quite envious of that.
