Rangers Reaction: Max Scherzer looks strong in rehab start

ARLINGTON — Max Scherzer might have given the Rangers something to chew on.

The three-time Cy Young winner allowed only a hit and a walk over four scoreless innings Sunday afternoon in Oklahoma City, where he was rehabbing from a nerve issue with Triple A Round Rock. Scherzer struck out five and threw an efficient 53 pitches.

The right-hander topped out at 94.8 mph and threw five different pitches. Baseball Savant had him throwing a sixth, a four-seam fastball, but only four. Technology is great, but that looks like a hiccup.

And, really, all the two-seamers seem like a hiccup. Scherzer has been a four-seam guy,  and it was the pitch he threw most last season. Maybe he was just working on stuff.

Anyhoo, the big numbers are the 53 and the 94.8.
