Friday on the Farm: A week after MLB debut, Jack Leiter still confident in what’s ahead

(Round Rock Express)

ROUND ROCK — Skepticism lives inside of everyone, and it thrives like an infectious disease on social media.

The skeptics came out in full force April 18.

That was the day of Jack Leiter’s MLB debut, when he allowed seven runs in 3 2/3 innings against the Tigers. He wasn’t at his best, but he pitched better than the box score indicates.

Some, though, tweeted in delight. Those who did probably need to delete their accounts.

That’s what Leiter has done, knowing full well that nothing productive can come from reading what the uniformed think.

But those who thought the Detroit debut was the start of a Leiter unraveling went quiet Thursday night.

Some guys struggle in the minors and doninate in the minors. Many more are the opposite. I hope Cole Winn is in that first group. Leiter just seemed too averse to walks in his debut. It does seem like many guys dominate their first inning and then start to get rocked afterwards (drGrom and Leiter come to mind).
