ARLINGTON — Right-hander Max Scherzer played catch Wednesday morning for the second consecutive day he attempts to keep his arm as active as possible as he recovers from a low-grade strain of the teres major muscle in his shoulder.

The three-time Cy Young winner hit the injured list last Wednesday after tossing 5 1/3 scoreless innings at Toronto, and general manager Chris Young said that Scherzer would miss the rest of the regular season.

I heard on the game that deGrom has his range of motion. Does it really take a year from now to when he can pitch for Texas? I get the feeling he could probably cut down a month or so by doing what Eovaldi has done with no rehab. Also, does this injury update news mean Scherzer can pitch in the postseason? Odds of that happening?

Everyday players come back more quickly because they don’t throw the ball near as much as pitchers. Plus they don’t throw other pitches like curve, slider, split etc…. His arm will be healthy, but his ramp up will take a lot longer as they are evaluating how he responds each time. Imagine spring training starting for him in June or July. Then it’s a month of working up his pitch count, etc… That’s if there are no setbacks.

As to Scherzer in post season, it seems they Rangers would need to make a run. Jeff makes it seem like he is a few weeks away still.
