SURPRISE, Ariz. — Rangers beat writers first spotted Michael Lorenzen on Friday morning in Rangers camp on the World Wide Web, where he was a guest on the Foul Territory baseball podcast.

He said he would be joining the Rangers’ rotation, which helps explain why he had a locker.

The club made his one-year, $4.5 million contract officially official a few hours later.

Then came the questions to general manager Chris Young, manager Bruce Bochy and Lorenzen himself.

Though arb salaries pushed up the payroll, here is an interesting observation: For the 19.65 MM Perez made, Texas got Yates (4.5 MM), Lorenzen (4.5 MM), and Mahle (11 MM AAV). That’s quite an upgrade!
