Here’s why Rangers might not replicate past two offseasons

Money talks this time of year in baseball as teams dive into free agency to fill any holes they have.

The Rangers don’t have many from the 2023 club that won the World Series.

Of the nine position players who started the most games during their postseason run, only Mitch Garver needs to be replaced.

The Rangers have five starting pitchers, with a sixth expected to be available in August.

The key contributors that pitched so well in the postseason are returning to the bullpen.

When general manager Chris Young said that the Rangers aren’t going to spend at the same levels they have the past two years, it’s because the Rangers don’t have the glaring needs they had the past two offseasons.

Translation: The Rangers don’t need to splurge on multiple impact free agents.

But with their broadcast partner threatening to not pay them in 2024 and the payroll already soaring, the Rangers are thinking twice about even splurging on one.

Sure would like an in depth analysis of the Bally situation. I’m not aware of the issues.

They have plenty of holes on the team, except they are just all in one spot.
Bullpen, bullpen, bullpen, bullpen, bullpen, and bullpen
The only good guys atm are Leclerc (elite 150+ ERA+ over his career, but with severe issues in clutch situations historically, evidenced by his -WPA Win Probability Added this season) and Brock Burke
I hate Sborz, but he may be able to do well and then get demoted and get promote again as a back-and-forth guy. Say that 2 of Kelly, Chase Lee, Cody Bradford, Marc Chruch, Sborz, and some minor league signings like Matt Bush claim 2 spots. That still leaves 3 or 4 holes in the bullpen.
Hole 1: Hader/Bednar/Clase/Devin Williams – Clase is reported to be on the trade block at the right offer (maybe Duran)
Hole 2: Another guy from the top list or a decent free agent signing/trade
Hole 3: A decent free agent signing or trade
I highly doubt Texas will get all 3. Even with budget concerns, CY seems like the type who would only make trades if forced to. Guys were saying that Bednar would be free (Duran aka Odor 2.0 and Owen White or Leody Taveras). If that’s the price for him or possibly Clase, what is the holdup?
