Texas Rangers notes: Why signing a third catcher will actually help Heim, Huff play more

ARLINGTON — Veteran catcher Kevin Plawecki was added to the Rangers’ roster Wednesday, and on the surface the move doesn’t seem to make a whole bunch of sense.
Plawecki was released Monday by the Red Sox after batting .217 with a .574 OPS in 157 at-bats. The Rangers have that already in the system and on the 40-man roster in rookie Meibrys Viloria.
