The Sunday Read: Rangers still in the fight after standing 8 count

One win might not fix everything, but at least the Rangers woke up Sunday having ended their eight-game losing streak.
They finally pulled out a victory in the late innings Saturday, 6-2, with a series of quality plate appearances in the ninth inning against the Twins bullpen. It wasn’t the sexiest way to win a game, with two consecutive bases-loaded walks followed by a bases-loaded hit batsman and a sacrifice fly to break a 2-2 tie.
It’s about time the Rangers enjoyed some good fortune.
Momentum is only as good as the next day’s starting pitcher. Fortunately, the Rangers have left-hander Jordan Montgomery in the finale at Target Field, where split might feel like a series win.
With the Mariners suddenly tied with the Rangers atop the American League West, the Rangers need a win to avoid falling out of first place for the first time since April 8.
That’s a long time ago.
Baseball is a sixth-month, 162-game grind filled with highs and lows. Despite all that has unfolded in the past 10 games, despite the standing 8 count they just took, the Rangers are still in the fight and in position to win it.
