The Sunday Read: Rangers in midst of make-or-break stretch

ARLINGTON — Despite all of the concern about how Max Scherzer would perform this season, some of it generated by Scherzer himself, he pitched well enough to win all three of his starts since coming off the injured list.

Instead, he’s 1-2.

Kirby Yates, in his second full season back from Tommy John surgery, could be selected this afternoon to the American League All-Star team. David Robertson won’t be an All-Star, but the right-hander sure knows how to get big outs in leverage situations.

All three right-handers have pitched as if they could help a contending ballclub, just as the Rangers expected them to do this season.

By July 30, they might be with an actual contender.
