The Sunday Read: Help is coming as Rangers try to survive early woes

(Eric Seals / USA TODAY NETWORK)

The Rangers’ bullpen has been thinned so badly that right-hander Jon Gray was on call Saturday night.

The Rangers’ offense has been so inconsistent that Nathaniel Lowe was flown to Atlanta and reinstated from the injured list despite going only 3 for 20 on his rehab assignment.

Corey Seager still doesn’t seem just right, and Wyatt Langford is still seeking his first home run.

At 11-11, the Rangers are just trying to survive the start of their defense of their World Series championship.

No one said this was going to be easy.

Gray was cruising and was lifted for Pruitt. How come? One of the advantages of Jon Gray in relief is that he can go three or four innings. Why not turn the end of the game over to him to shut down the other side completely?

The Rangers still need him to start this week. Saturday was his bullpen day. He didn’t have a long leash.
