The Sunday Read: Get to know the 26 Rangers on the season-opening roster

(The Associated Press)

The Rangers are a whopping two games into their season, and everyone knows that the Opening Day roster the team set Thursday morning will soon be in flux.

Michael Lorenzen appears to be a few rehab starts away from joining the Rangers’ rotation, which could send Saturday starter Cody Bradford to the bullpen.

Lorenzen, a right-hander, was an All-Star last season for the Tigers and later threw a no-hitter for the Phillies. He leans on his off-speed pitches, keeps the ball on the ground despite using his four-seam fastball more than his sinker and doesn’t strike out many hitters.

He also doesn’t give up many home runs.

Back when pitchers hit, Lorenzen was one of the best.

Keep that scouting report in mind when he pitches for the Rangers for the first time. First baseman Nathaniel Lowe is a few weeks away from his season debut.

In the meantime, get to know, or get reacquainted with, the 26 players on the Opening Day roster.

I like what Walsh has shown but don’t see how he fits on this roster once Lowe returns. Doubt he can show enough to bring anything significant back in a trade this early. Guessing Latz gets bumped when Lorenzen returns, or maybe Yerry. Both got rings so good for them.
