The Sunday Read: Are Rangers’ plans on hold until Shohei Ohtani decides?

The biggest news out of the Shohei Ohtani camp in the past month is that the superstar got a dog named Malort.

People seem to think the dog is a beagle, though the ears are too hairy to be a pure bred. There’s nothing in world wrong with a mutt.

Ohtani is a breed of his own, a two-way stud who runs like a deer, and for the first time in his career he is a free agent.

Every team wants him, but only a handful can afford him. The Rangers are thought to be one of the teams he would consider joining.

However, there’s been no concrete news on where and when Ohtani is going to sign. Perhaps it’s no coincidence that only one of the big-time free agents has signed (Aaron Nola re-signing with the Phillies).

Maybe it’s still too early in the offseason for the most anticipated deals to come together, but with the uniqueness and potential size of the Ohtani contract, baseball’s big business might be on hold until he starts to make up his mind.

Just sign Hader to the 6/100-110 he should get and don’t pay a DH with command issues + TJS 45-55 MM for 10-12 years. They can trade for 2 of Bednar, Clase, and Williams instead if they prefer and just sign Montgomery and some NRI bp arms. Ohtani is a waste of money, and going iver the limit costs them draft pick compensation when they lose and sign guys. They also have 8 above average guys and 6+ years of Foscue/Crim to DH for them.
