The Sunday Read: In the OPS era, could Bubba Thompson be a throwback full-time left fielder?

ARLINGTON — Bubba Thompson steals bases with more ease than any Rangers player in recent memory. Non-recent memory, too.

Some opposing catchers aren’t even attempting to throw him out at second base. Those who do are essentially just getting in some extra throwing practice.

He’s making it look that easy.

But as Thompson has said many times before and still says now that he has made his MLB debut, he can’t steal first base.

Crowd the plate and wear body armor. Covers the outside and limits where the pitcher can realistically throw because he does NOT want to hit you. One bunt attempt per game minimum. Work counts. Get comfy w/ 2 strikes. Take a lot of pitches.

    Easy peasy!
