The Sunday Read: It’s not 2009 anymore, but Mike Maddux’s task with Rangers is still the same

If the MLB offseason were based strictly on coaching hires and front-office additions, the Rangers would have already won it.
Convincing manager Bruce Bochy to return to the game is widely viewed as a game-changer. Dayton Moore agreeing to serve as a special advisor for baseball operations, and someone to mentor general manager Chris Young, is another significant move.
And so is the return of pitching coach Mike Maddux, announced on the same Thanksgiving Eve press release as Moore’s addition but deserving of its own headline.
If not for Bochy, Maddux would top the marquee.
