The Sunday Read: One six-pack to go as Rangers head to spring training

The most unique spring training in Texas Rangers history begins Tuesday with pitchers and catchers working out for the first time.

Position players will join them Feb. 19.

They will take to the back fields of the Surprise Recreation Campus as the reigning World Series champions for the first time. The other 29 teams want to unseat them, while the Rangers aim to be the first team since the 2000 Yankees to defend their title.

Still a little hard to believe, but it’s true.

Spring training begins on the heels for an unusually slow offseason that was dictated by Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Scott Boras and, in the Rangers’ case, Diamond Sports Group.

I hope they sign that minimum wage guy who won a Cy Young award in the National League in 2020. It would be immoral not to, especially after giving 2nd chances to Hamilton, Bradley, Chapman, Matt Bush, and others.

I don’t see the Bauer thing happening. He doesn’t fit with the GM, but maybe they get desperate.
