The biggest shortcoming of the 2021 Texas Rangers, manager Chris Woodward said, was not an abundant lack of talent.
That’s not to say the Rangers weren’t short on talent, because they were. Look no further than what Woodward said Saturday before Game 161 of 162, when he estimated that only 10 players — and that might be pushing it — have secured a spot on next season’s Opening Day roster.
There are 26 spots on an MLB roster, so … yeah.
The Rangers’ goal this season was to evaluate what they had in the system. Who could be a regular on a contending team? Which positions need help?
Not many and several.
