The Sunday Read: Willie Calhoun could have a future with Rangers, but ‘it would be awkward’

HOUSTON — Willie Calhoun is still in the Texas Rangers organization.
His stated desire to be traded remains unfulfilled. A deal might be out there, but no team has inquired about him and the Rangers haven’t contacted any teams.
The Rangers seem content, or indifferent, to let him do what he said he was going to do May 1 when sent to Triple A Round Rock. He told The Athletic that he was headed to the minors to make himself a desirable trade piece, words that he doesn’t deny but he thought they didn’t sound bad as he was saying them.
Well, they read terribly.
A lot would have to happen for Calhoun to be called up to the Rangers. That would include the ream being decimated by injury on top of Willie hitting the snot out of the ball for RR.
I have been rooting for him for 5 years, that hasn’t changed.
I like the guy. Maybe this will serve as a wake-up call.
I have to admit that I was surprised when Calhoun was tendered for this season. Bad luck injuries aside, he just really hasn’t lived up to what the scouting reports have said about him. He seems liike a nice enough guy, when things are going well, but turns into a primadonna when they don’t. I suspect, barring catastrophe, his time in Arlington is done.
