Yamamoto mega-deal might price Rangers out on Montgomery

A second free-agency logjam cleared Thursday night, when the Dodgers landed Japanese import Yoshinobu Yamamoto on a 12-year, $325 million deal that includes a $50 million signing bonus.

For those scoring at home, the Dodgers have committed $1.2 billion to Yamamoto, Shohei Ohtani and Tyler Glasnow in the past two weeks.

MLB.com actually has 2 scouts who rate Wyatt Langford as a better prospect than Yamamoto: https://www.mlb.com/news/pipeline-inbox-digging-deeper-into-the-top-draft-prospects
It’s great Texas got a guy whose market value may be even more than 12/375 (with the posting fee) and opt outs. They better not extend Wyatt until he is really close to free agency to get their low cap tax seasons from him while Semien, Gray, and Scherzer are eating up much of the cap space. I’d value Montgomery at like 22 MM for 5-6 years, but no more.
